Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu was brought to Rajahmundry Central Prison, East Godavari, in the early hours of Monday after a 200km journey from Vijayawada.
The Vijayawada court, which remanded the 73-year-old in judicial custody for 14 days in a multi-crore corruption case, granted him amenities including home-cooked food, medication and a special room.
Naidu who has Z-plus category security protestion was given separate accommodation because of purported threat to his life. He was housed in the upper block of the jail's Sneha wing.
Naidu's son Nara Lokesh, who is TDP general secretary, followed the former CM to the prison gates and waited outside for some time before leaving.
The judge, while ordering judicial custody, said 24 hours were not enough to complete the investigation into Naidu's involvement in Skill Development Corporation scam case.
The TDP chief was arrested in a pre-dawn operation on Saturday at Nandyala by CID officers from a marriage hall outside which his caravan was parked.
Following his arrest, TDP has called for a statewide bandh. Police security was beefed up at the jail and the East Godavari district police have imposed prohibitory orders in Rajahmundry.
