An army officer and another officer from the Jammu and Kashmir police sustained injuries during an operation against militants in the Gadole area of Kokernag, Anantnag, on Wednesday.

The two officers were wounded when the army and J&K police launched an operation based on intelligence indicating the presence of militants in the vicinity.

As security forces closed in on the militants' location, a firefight ensued, resulting in both officers getting hit by bullets. They were immediately evacuated to the hospital for medical treatment.

The police issued a tweet stating, "Encounter has commenced in #Kokernag area of #Anantnag. Army and JKP officers injured. Further details will follow."

According to sources, it is believed that two to three militants are trapped in the area.

In a separate operation in Narla, Rajouri, two militants were killed in a joint operation conducted by the army and J&K police.

Providing details of the operation, defense spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, based in Jammu, stated, "The Army and J&KP had been monitoring and tracking the movement of two terrorists since September 7."

He continued, "Our troops cordoned off the terrorists, leading to a heavy firefight on September 12, during which one terrorist was killed the same night. Despite adverse weather conditions and difficult terrain, the second terrorist was pursued and neutralised on the morning of September 13 after intense fighting throughout the night." Lt Col Bartwal said that a substantial quantity of warlike materials, including medicines marked from Pakistan, were recovered during the operation.

He said one soldier from the 63 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) made the ultimate sacrifice, and three soldiers, along with a Special Police Official (SPO), were injured. Additionally, an army dog also lost its life during the operation.

The six-year-old female Labrador named Kent laid down her life while saving troops during an encounter in Rajouri on Tuesday. Kent was at the forefront of "Operation Sujaligala" and was leading a column of soldiers in pursuit of the fleeing terrorists. Despite facing heavy hostile fire, Kent shielded her handler and made the ultimate sacrifice, embodying the finest traditions of the Indian Army, the defense spokesperson stated.
