The state-of-the-art convention and expo centre ‘YashoBhoomi’ was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. He also inaugurated the Delhi Metro Airport Line’s 2-km extension to YashoBhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 station.
PM took a metro ride from Dhaula Kuan station to the newly-built YashoBhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 metro station on his birthday. The new metro station is set to enhance urban connectivity and in reaching international convention centre ‘YashoBhoomi’. The travel time between New Delhi and Dwarka station has been reduced to around 19 minutes. Earlier, the travel used to take 22 minutes. According to DMRC official, trains on Airport Line are now running at 120 kmph.
While speaking at the inaugural event, Modi said that the convention centre would play a big role in taking local products globally. He also urged the people to buy local products made by artisans for upcoming festivals including Diwali.
At the launch of the Vishwakarma scheme, PM Modi said that conference tourism is rising in the world.
"The Conference tourism industry is worth more than Rs. 25 lakh crores in the world. Every year in the world, more than 32,000 big exhibitions and expo take place. Countries with a population of 2-5 crores also arrange it, our population is 140 crores... People coming for conference tourism spend more money than usual tourists... India's participation is only 1% in this industry... Today's new India is preparing itself for conference tourism... Adventure, medical, spiritual and heritage tourism happen only where there is a necessary environment," Modi was quoted by ANI.

He also added that under the Vishwakarma scheme, government will provide up to Rs 3 lakhs loan without any bank guarantee. "Government has decided that initially Rs 1 lakh loan will be given and when it is repaid, we will provide additional Rs 2 lakh loan," he said.
YashoBhoomi convention centre
Yashobhoomi is the phase one of the India International Convention and Expo Centre, located in Dwarka. The centre will be connected to the Delhi Airport Metro Express line from Dwarka Sector 21 to a new metro station 'Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25'.
Developed at a cost of Rs 5,400 crore, Yashobhoomi is the largest MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) facilities in the world. Multiple exhibition halls, grand ballroom, and convention rooms provides a stage of hosting trade fairs, business events and meetings.
It has a seating capacity of over 11,000 delegates and comprises of 15 convention rooms. It has around 13 meeting rooms spread across eight floors and has a grand ballroom. The plenary hall in the convention centre is equipped with a seating capacity of around 6,000 guests.
The auditorium at the convention centre has an automotive seating system suitable for various occasions. The automotive seating system allows the floor to be a flat floor or an auditorium style tiered seating for different seating configurations.
The grand ballroom facility can host around 2,500 guests and has an extended open area that can seat around 500 people.
The exhibition halls are spread across over 1.07 lakh square meters. Halls are also connected to a grand foyer space, designed with copper ceiling. The foyer will house several support areas such as media rooms, VVIP lounges, cloak facilities, visitor information centre and ticketing among others.
