Tarun Jinaraj, a man accused of killing his wife on Valentine's Day 20 years ago, has once again eluded authorities after jumping his temporary bail. This marks his second escape since evading arrest for 15 years prior to his initial capture in 2008.
Jinaraj, now 47 years old, allegedly strangled his 26-year-old wife, Sajni Krishnan, on April 14, 2003, just three months after their marriage. He committed the heinous act in order to pursue a relationship with his girlfriend from before his marriage. After the murder, Jinaraj managed to successfully assume a new identity, enter into a second marriage, and even settle in Bengaluru with his new wife and their two children.
Authorities finally traced and arrested Jinaraj in 2008 in Bengaluru. However, during his five years in jail, he made several attempts to obtain temporary release on bail. In July of this year, the high court granted him a two-week temporary bail on the grounds that he needed to travel to Bengaluru to access his provident funds.
Under the terms of his bail, Jinaraj was required to keep local police officials informed about his whereabouts in Karnataka and make bi-weekly visits to the nearest police station. However, he took advantage of the situation and absconded once again.
Jinaraj's escape has left authorities puzzled as to how he managed to evade capture for so long and highlights the need for enhanced security measures. The victim's parents, represented by advocate Bhadrish Raju, expressed their disappointment and called for swift action to bring Jinaraj to justice.
The Ahmedabad district court has now issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Jinaraj, and a lookout circular will soon be issued to determine if he has fled the country using a fake identity and passport.
