Railways has ordered a high-level probe after a stationary train moved ahead and broke through the platform at Mathura Junction railway station on Tuesday night. A woman has been injured in the freak accident.

Videos recorded in the security cameras of the Shakurbasti-Mathura MEMU showed a railway employee entering the engine cabin after all passengers deboarded the train. The employee, identified as Sachin Kumar, was seen keeping his bag on the throttle of the engine, which caused a sudden acceleration and pushed the train forward.

According to media reports, the train broke the dead-end and half of its portion climbed onto the 2A platform.

Sachin, who was seen busy talking to someone on a video call, had been sent to get the key of the driving trailer coach cab. An initial probe report also claimed he was in an inebriated state.

“Inebriated, continuously watching mobile phone and unmindful of his surroundings, he carelessly kept his bag on the throttle of the engine, taking it into forward position,” the probe report said, reported the Times of India.

Sachin and four other staff members have been placed under suspension.
