Shahnawaz alias Shafi Uzzama was arrested from a hideout in New Delhi

The Delhi Police special cell has arrested Shahnawaz alias Shafi Uzzama who was on the most wanted list of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Shahnawaz, a New Delhi-based engineer, was wanted in the Pune ISIS case, according to ANI. NIA had announced a cash reward of Rs 3 lakh for information about Shahnawaz.

The special cell team arrested the man from a hideout in New Delhi. The man had escaped from Pune police custody and was living in the national capital. Three other terror suspects, Rizwan Abdul Haji Ali, Abdulla Faiyaz Shaikh alias Diaperwala and Talha Liyakat Khan, are also wanted in the case, said reports.

Shahnawaz and two others from Madhya Pradesh, Mohammad Imran Khan and Mohammad Saki, were arrested by Pune police on July 18 in connection with a two-wheeler theft attempt. Later, Shahnawaz managed to escape from police custody by leaping out of a police vehicle. It was later found that Khan and Saki were part of the Sufa Terrorist Gang and wanted in connection with explosives being recovered from a car in Rajasthan in April 2022.

On August 11, NIA arrested another suspect, Shamil Saquib Nachan, a resident of Padgha in Thane, in connection with the Pune ISIS module case. He accused of being involved in the fabrication, training and testing of IEDs to carry out terrorist acts.

He was reportedly working with the other five accused, including Zulfikar Ali Barodawala, Mohammad Imran Khan, Mohammad Saki, Simab Nasiruddi Kazi and Abdul Pathan. All of them were arrested.
