Two militants killed in encounter in J&K’s Kulgam

Search operation still on, says police

Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of south Kashmir on Wednesday.

The gunfight took place in the Kujjar area, following specific intelligence regarding the presence of militants.

The Kashmir Zone police confirmed the killing of the two militants through a post on X, stating that the operation was still ongoing.

The post read, "Two terrorists have been neutralized. The bodies of these terrorists are currently being recovered from the encounter site. The cordon and search operation is still in progress. Further details will be provided soon."

The development comes on the heels of a seven-day-long encounter at the Gadole forests in Kokernag, Anantnag, south Kashmir, where two Army officers, including a Colonel and a Major, a soldier, and a DSP  lost their lives.

In the same operation, two militants, including Uzair Khan of Lashkar-e-Toiba (Let), were killed. The security forces had surrounded the area and employed drones and RPGs to target the hiding militants.

On August 3, militants ambushed and killed three soldiers in Kulgam at Hal, managing to escape with their weapons.
