Senior CPI(M) leader and CITU Kerala state unit chief Anathalavattom Anandan passed away on Thursday. He was 86.
A former state secretariat member of the CPI(M), Anathalavattom Anandan was reportedly admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital where he breathed his last. The three-time MLA was the national vice president of the CITU.
Anandan left behind a career in the Indian Railways to become a full-time communist party worker. He was jailed during the emergency and also served as the chief whip from 2006 to 2011.
He is survived by his wife Laila and sons Jeeva Anandan and Mahesh Anandan.
