Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy was stabbed by an unidentified man while campaigning for the assembly elections in Siddipet district on Monday.
Reddy, who currently represents Medak Lok Sabha constituency and has been fielded by the BRS from Dubbak for the upcoming assembly polls, suffered injuries in his stomach. He has been shifted to a nearby hospital.
BRS supremo and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao condemned the attack, terming it an attack on himself.
“I am saying that the attack on the Dubbak candidate is an attack on KCR,” Rao said while speaking at a poll rally in at Jukkal.
According to reports, the attack took place in Doulthabad mandal when the Reddy was walking towards a pastor’s house.
The attacker was caught and allegedly beaten up by some local people.
"The assailant has been taken into custody. We are verifying his details," Siddipet Commissioner of Police N. Swetha told PTI.
Visuals showed Reddy pressing the stab wound on his stomach to stop the bleeding while sitting in a vehicle.
Elections to the 119-member Telangana assembly will take place on November 30. Counting of votes will be held on December 3.
