Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu walked out of the central prison in Rajamahendravaram on Tuesday after the High Court granted him temporary bail in the skill development scam case.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo was accorded a rousing reception outside the jail by his family members and party leaders.
Naidu’s brother-in-law and Hindupur MLA N. Balakrishna, his daughter-in-law Nara Brahmani and TDP state president K. Atchen Naidu had reached Rajamahendravaram to welcome the veteran leader.
"When I was in trouble, you all came on the roads and prayed for me. I will never forget the affection shown to me, not only in Andhra Pradesh but also in Telangana and across the world,” Naidu said.
"In my 45 years of career, I haven't committed any mistake and will not let anyone do. All the political parties have supported me, all thanks to them," he added.
Naidu is expected to reach his residence at Undavalli in Guntur district late in the night.
TDP leaders and supporters burst into celebration across the state.
The AP High Court granted interim bail to Naidu for a period of four weeks on medical grounds after his lawyers told the court that he needs to undergo a cataract surgery.
"With a humanitarian perspective in mind and considering the petitioner's health condition, this court is inclined to grant temporary bail on health grounds to the petitioner/A.37, enabling him to undergo the required surgery on his right eye," the court said in the order.
The former CM has been directed to appear before the Superintendent of the central prison in Rajamahendravaram on or before November 28.
