BJP races towards absolute majority in MP; says 'people have blessed PM Modi'

This would be BJP's fifth consecutive term in power in the state

The BJP is set to retain Madhya Pradesh as early trends saw the party racing towards an absolute majority in the state. As per the Election Commission results, the BJP was leading in 150 of 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh while the Congress ahead in 61.

This would be BJP's fifth consecutive term in power in the 230-member assembly.

All senior BJP leaders, including Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan were on the way to victory. In Budhni assembly constituency, Chouhan was leading over Vikram Sharma of Congress by 13339 votes after two rounds of counting of votes. In Indore-1 seat, BJP's Kailash Vijayvargiya was leading over Sanjay Shukla of Congress by 4268.

In Dimani, BJP's Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar was leading over BSP's Balveer Dandotiya by 2021 votes after two rounds of counting.

Chouhan reacted to the early trend, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has touched people's hearts. "Modi ji MP ke mann mein hain aur Modi ji ke mann mein MP hai. He held public rallies here and appealed to the people and that touched people's hearts. These trends are a result of that," he told reporters.

The chief minister also credited the 'double-engine' government. "Madhya  Pradesh became a family. I had said earlier too that the BJP would get a comfortable and grand majority as people's love for us was visible everywhere," he added.

Party chief V D Sharma to thanked people for their blessings. "People blessed this drive. I am proud that with the work of booth-level workers of the BJP, we are fulfilling the resolution of 51% voting in every booth. I am proud of BJP workers, people have blessed PM Modi," he said.
