The six-party alliance, Zoram People's Movement, is set to form government in Mizoram with top MNF candidates, including ministers, losing in the elections. The vote counting in Mizoram began in 13 centres across the state at 8 am on Monday.
Chief Minister Zoramthanga lost to ZPM's Lalthansanga in the Aizawl East-1 assembly constituency. Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia lost to ZPM candidate in the Tuichang Assembly seat, revealed the Election Commission. The MNF minister received 6,079 votes while ZPM candidate W Chhuanawma got 6,988.
Another MNF minister losing ZPM was Rural Development Minister Laruatkima in the Aizawl West II constituency. He got only 5,579 votes compared to 10,398 bagged by ZPM candidate Lalnghinglova Hmar, according to the Election Commission.
Mizoram Health Minister R Lalthangliana also got defeated by ZPM in the South Tuipui seat. ZPM nominee Jeje Lalpekhlua won with 5,468 votes while the MNF minister fell short by bagging just 5,333 votes.
The elections were held on November 7 with 80 per cent voter turnout. A total of 174 candidates, including 18 women, contested in the polls.
