Four union ministers get additional portfolios after Tomar, Prahlad Patel, Renuka Singh resign

Prasident Droupadi Murmu has accepted the resignations of three union ministers—Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel and Renuka Singh Saruta—with immediate effect, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a statement on Thursday.

The ministers submitted their resignation after they won the recent assembly elections.

“The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignations of Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel and Smt. Renuka Singh Saruta from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution,” the statement said.

Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Shobha Karandlaje has been assigned additional charge of MoS in Ministry of Food Processing Industries which was handled by Patel. Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda will take the additional charge of the agriculture ministry after Tomar quit the cabinet.

Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar has been assigned the additional charge as MoS in Ministry of Jal Shakti while Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Bharti Pravin Pawar has been given additional charge as MoS in Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the  Rashtrapati Bhavan said.

All 12 BJP MPs who successfully contested the assembly polls had submitted their resignations on Wednesday amid indications that they may join the new governments in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.
