CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran dies at 73

Rajendran, who was undergoing treatment for acute diabetes, suffered a cardiac arrest

The secretary of the CPI state committee, Kanam Rajendran passed away on Friday. He was 73.

Rajendran, who had been undergoing treatment for acute diabetes, suffered a cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Kochi. Recently, he submitted a letter to his party leadership requesting leave from his post to undergo treatment.

Born in Kanam, a village in Kottayam, on November 10, 1950, Rajendran entered politics through student activism. He represented the Vazhoor constituency in the seventh and eighth Kerala legislative assemblies.

He was elected to the CPI state secretariat in 1978. In 2006, he became the AITUC state general secretary. In 2012, Rajendran became a national executive member, and subsequently in 2015, he became the CPI state secretary.
