In a shocking incident, a BAMS doctor threw the body of his patient in a canal after the latter allegedly died due to wrong treatment. The incident was reported in Amarwara town of Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district.

The doctor – Deepak Shrivastava – carried the body to a distance of over 170 km in a four-wheeler to dispose of it. Deepak Shrivastava, his brother Devendra and his clinic staff Pradeep Dehria and Kapil Malvi were arrested by the Chhindwara police in connection with the incident. They have confessed to the crime.

In-charge of Amarwara police station, Rajendra Dhurve, confirmed to The Week that Shrivastava and his three associates disposed of the body of Pusu Rathod, 60, a resident of Lahgadua near Amarwara town during the night intervening December 2 and 3 in the canal of Bargi dam in Jabalpur.

The cop said that Rathod had gone to the clinic of Shrivastava on December 2 after developing breathing problems. The doctor gave him a deriphyllin injection following which the condition of Rathod worsened and died at the clinic.

Instead of informing the patient's kin, Shrivastava waited for night and took Rathod's body to Jabalpur in a car with the help of his brother and two staff members. The body was thrown into the Gokulpur canal, where it was found by Jabalpur police on December 4.

Sources said that the family members of Rathod had been looking for him since December 2. They had visited the clinic as Rathod had told them he would be seeing the doctor, but could not find him.

Later, they approached police, but allegedly received little attention as the cops were busy with the poll counting on December 3. After the body was found in Jabalpur on December 4, the family members staged a demonstration at Amarwara police station, following which a probe was initiated and the doctor and associates were arrested.

Rajendra Dhurve told The Week that it was a matter of probe whether Rathod had died due to wrong treatment/injection, but the accused had confessed that he had died at the clinic and they had disposed of the body.
