After days of suspense, the BJP on Monday announced that Mohan Yadav, its three-time MLA from South Ujjain, will be the new chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. Former Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar was named as the assembly speaker candidate for the party.
It was also revealed that Jagdish Devda (also spelt as Jagdish Deora) and Rajendra Shukla will be the deputy CMs. Here is a look at the new deputy chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh.
Who is Rajendra Shukla?
Rajendra Shukla was formerly the Minister of Public Health Engineering under the previous Shivraj Singh Chouhan government and is an MLA from Rewa constituency. He has also handled industry and energy portfolios in the earlier governments between 2008 and 2018.
Born on August 3, 1964, Shukla hails from Rewa and holds a bachelors degree in civil engineering from Rewa Government Engineering College. He served as president of the college's Student Union in 1986. His wife is Sunita Shukla and they have a son and two daughters.
The 59-year-old first contested assembly elections in 1998 but lost to INC's Pushparaj Singh. He won the elections in 2003 after defeating Singh and he continued winning the polls in 2008, 2013, 2018 and 2023. He has handled several portfolios after he was appointed minister four times during his political career.
Who is Jagdish Devda?
Jagdish Devda, who was the finance minister during the previous government, is an MLA from Malhargarh assembly constiteuncy.
Born on July 1, 1957, Devda has his roots in Neemuch district's Rampura. His wife is Renu Devda and they have two sons. The 66-year-old whose degrees include MA Economics and LLB practices law alongside his political career. As a student, he was an athletics champion and became the president of the Student Union at Rampura Government College in 1979.
He contested under BJP ticket for the first time in 1993 and won the assembly elections. In 2003, he became the minister of state in Madhya Pradesh. In 2008, he became a cabinet minister.
