Security has been tightened in Parliament following Wednesday’s security lapse and the Lok Sabha Secretariat has suspended eight personnel on the issue.
The suspended personnel were identified as Rampal, Arvind, Vir Das, Ganesh, Anil, Pradeep, Vimitt and Narendra, PTI reported.
In a major security lapse on Wednesday, two youths, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan.D jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery during Zero Hour and sprayed yellow gas using canisters. Two other protesters sprayed canisters outside the parliament premises. The incident happened on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attacks.
Security measures have been tightened in Parliament following Wednesday’s incident and only MPs were allowed inside the building from Makar Dwar. The MPs were subjected to thorough checks before entering the building, including making them remove their shoes for checks.
Several Congress and Opposition leaders sought suspension of business and discussion on security breach on Thursday.
Congress President Mallikarjuin Kharge, Lok Sabha MP and Congress Whip Manickam Tagore, Congress Whip in Rajya Sabha Naseer Hussain, MP Jebi Mather have given adjournment notices in both houses and sought discussion on the issue. “Given the gravity of the situation and its direct impact on the security of the esteemed institution of Parliament and its members, I propose that we demand a statement from the Home Minister regarding this matter”, Hussain said in his notice.
