An ani-cannabis drive by the Tripura Police led to a violent face-off with locals on Friday, leaving a few policemen injured.
The incident was reported in the Simna area of West Tripura district. At least four police vehicles were vandalised by locals who stopped a police party on its way back after levelling a marijuana farm in the area.
Visuals of the incident showed a police SUV and bus left with shattered glasses. Other visuals showed a large number of security personnel in riot gear standing guard on a rural road.
However, none of the police personnel suffered injuries of serious nature in the incident, news agency PTI reported.
Hundreds of marijuana plants grown in a fenced area were destroyed by the policemen, a video released by PTI showed. The police party reached Simna as a part of the recently launched statewide crackdown on illegal marijuana cultivation.

The SP further added that the department, along with other security agencies, successfully destroyed approximately 60,000 plants on Thursday in the Simna area.
