Delhi police on Saturday arrested Mahesh Kumawat, one more accused in the Parliament security breach case allegedly on the charges of providing logistical aid to the accused.
According to police, Kumawat allegedly helped Lalit Jha, the mastermind behind the security breach to escape from Delhi. According to police, it was on Jha’s instruction that December 13 was fixed to carry out the smoke scare, on the day the nation commemorates the 2001 Parliament terror attacks. Police arrested Jha on December 14.
Jha is a resident of Kolkata and a teacher by profession. Influenced by revolutionary Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Jha and others were highly motivated to commit an act which could draw the country's attention to them.
In a major security breach on Wednesday, two persons, identified as Sagar Sharma and D. Manoranjan, jumped into the chamber of Lok Sabha from the public gallery during Zero Hour and released yellow gas from canisters and shouted slogans before being overpowered by MPs and security personnel.
Around the same time, two persons, identified as Neelam Devi and Amol Shinde, also sprayed coloured gas from canisters while shouting slogans 'Tanashahi nahi chalegi' outside the parliament premises.
Meanwhile, accused Neelam's parents moved an application in Patiala House Court of Delhi, seeking a copy of the FIR registered against her and others. Parents also seek the court's direction to Delhi Police to allow them to meet with her during the remand period. The concerned court issued notice to Delhi Police and fixed December 18 for a detailed hearing in the matter, ANI reported.
