Raghav Chadha appointed AAP leader in Rajya Sabha, replaces jailed Sanjay Singh

The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday appointed Raghav Chadha as the party’s leader in the Rajya Sabha, replacing Sanjay Singh who is behind bars in the Delhi liquor policy case.

Sources in the Rajya Sabha secretariat confirmed to news agency PTI that a letter had been received from the AAP regarding the appointment of Chadha as its floor leader.

Raghav Chadha will henceforth be the party's leader in the upper house in the absence of Sanjay Singh, who has "health issues", the party said in the letter.

With 10 MPs, the AAP has the fourth largest strength in the Rajya Sabha after the BJP, the Congress and the Trinamool Congress.

Singh was arrested in October by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case. He was the second high-profile leader after Manish Sisodia, a former deputy chief minister, to be held in this case.

The anti-money laundering agency has alleged that an accused businessman Dinesh Arora gave Rs 2 crore in cash at the Rajya Sabha MP's residence in two tranches. Singh has rebutted the claim.
