Congress MP and General Secretary in-charge of Communications Jairam Ramesh has added ‘Suspended MP’ to his X bio and said it was ironic that BJP MP who provided passes to the intruders still continues in the House.
Jairam Ramesh tweeted, “It is truly ironical that the BJP MP who helped the 2 intruders gain entry to the Lok Sabha on December 13th continues to be a MP, while 93 INDIA MPs who demanded a statement from the Home Minister on the role of this BJP MP have been suspended from both Houses. Modi Hai to Yehi Hai!”
In an unprecedented development, as many as 78 opposition MPs—33 from Lok Sabha and 45 from Rajya Sabha—were suspended on Monday after they staged protests against the recent security breach in parliament, taking the total number of MPs placed under suspension during the winter session to 92. The Opposition MPs were protesting demanding a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the Parliament security breach on December 13.
The opposition members suspended from Lok Sabha on Monday included Congress’s leader in the house Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, DMK leader T.R. Balu and Trinamool Congress’s Sougata Ray.
Three Congress members—K. Jayakumar, Vijay Vasanth and Abdul Khaleque—who had climbed on the speaker's podium and raised slogans, were suspended from the lower house pending report of the Privileges Committee on their unparliamentary behaviour.
On December 14, the Lok Sabha suspended 13 members for the remaining part of the Winter Session for waving placards and disrupting proceedings over the Parliament security breach issue. Trinamool member Derek O'Brien was suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remainder of the Winter Session for "unruly" behaviour.
