Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House till 12 noon on Tuesday after Opposition MPs continued their protest condemning the mass suspension of MPs and demanding an explanation from the Centre regarding the security breach in Parliament.
As House proceedings resumed for the day, Opposition MPs protested condemning the mass suspension and demanded that Speaker should revoke it. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi condemned the act. Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House till 12 noon.
Earlier, Opposition MPs including NCP leader Sharad Pawar and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge staged a protest in front of the Gandhi Statue in Parliament premises condemning the suspension of 92 MPs for the remainder of the winter session.
In an unprecedented development, as many as 78 opposition MPs—33 from Lok Sabha and 45 from Rajya Sabha—were suspended on Monday after they staged protests against the recent security breach in parliament, taking the total number of MPs placed under suspension during the winter session to 92. The Opposition MPs were protesting demanding statement from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the Parliament security breach on December 13.
On December 14, the Lok Sabha suspended 13 members for the remaining part of the Winter Session for waving placards and disrupting proceedings over the Parliament security breach issue. Trinamool member Derek O'Brien was suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remainder of the Winter Session for "unruly" behaviour.
