The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has designated Lakhbir Singh Landa, a Canada-based gangster, as a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Landa reportedly had links with Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Canada in June, and US-based Sikhs for Justice leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
Who is Lakhbir Singh Landa?
Landa, 34, is the son of Niranjan Singh and Parminder Kaur and hails from Punjab's Tarn Taran district. He currently lives in Edmonton, the capital of Canada's Alberta province. He is a member of Babbar Khalsa International, which is listed as a terrorist organistion by India.
With the help of a cross-border agency, Landa was involved in a terror attack wherein a shoulder-mounted rocket propelled grenade was used to target Punjab's State Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali, according to the Union ministry.
He was also involved in suppying IEDs, arms, sophisticated weapons and explosive across the border to various modules for carrying out terrorist activities in Punjab. He was also slapped with charges over raising terrorist modules, extortion, killings, planting IEDs, smuggling weapons and narcotics, according to the MHA.
"An open-ended warrant has been issued against Lakhbir Singh Landa and he is a subject of Lookout Circular No. 2144306 dated 09.06.2021," read the MHA statement.
