Three nominees of the Aam Aadmi Party including jailed leader Sanjay Singh have been elected as members of Rajya Sabha.
All three AAP candidates – former Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal, Sanjay Singh and ND Gupta got elected to Rajya Sabha. The party nominated Swati Maliwal for the first time to the House and renominated Sanjay Singh and Gupta.
The six-year term of Singh, N.D. Gupta and Sushil Kumar Gupta ends on January 27. Maliwal's name was nominated by the party to replace Sushil Gupta. Maliwal resigned as DCW chairperson after she was nominated by the party for the role. All three candidates filed their nomination papers on January 8 at the Delhi transport commissioner's office in Civil Lines.
Singh, who is in jail in connection with a Delhi excise policy money laundering case arrived at the Transport Department office amid tight security to file his nomination papers.
