In a significant ruling, a Varanasi court on Wednesday ordered that the report of the survey conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on the Gyanvapi mosque that adjoins the Kashi Vishwanath Temple be given to both sides.

District judge A.K. Vishvesha said the parties shall give an affidavit to keep the report with them and not make it public.

The report could be made available after 4 pm, counsel for Hindu litigants Madan Mohan Yadav said.

The ASI conducted the scientific survey of the mosque complex as per the July 21 order of the Varanasi District Court to determine if the mosque was built over a pre-existing structure of a Hindu temple.

In August, the Supreme Court refused to stay the ASI survey except the 'wuzukhana' area where a 'shivling' was claimed to have been found last year.
