Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday sharpened his attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying he was remote-controlled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

The Congress and the ruling BJP have been exchanging blows over the alleged disruptions to Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra ever since it entered Assam last week.

“PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have the remote control of Sarma, who will be thrown out instantly if he speaks anything for the benefit of Assam,” Gandhi said, addressing a gathering at Dhubri.

Gandhi asserted that the Congress party will defeat both the BJP and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as well as the assembly polls in Assam.

He further termed the Badruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF a “B-team of BJP”.

Chief Minister Sarma, meanwhile, reiterated that he would ensure the arrest of Gandhi and other Congress leaders after the Lok Sabha elections.

"We will form an SIT, the SIT shall investigate the case and we shall arrest him after the Lok Sabha elections are over. If we take action now, they will call it as political move," he said.

Sarma alleged that the whole intention of Gandhi’s Yatra was to jeopardize the peace in Assam.

On Tuesday, the Assam Police filed an FIR against Gandhi and other Congress leaders for indulging in “wanton acts of violence”.

The Congress, however, termed it a “political FIR” without any factual basis and said legal remedies will be explored in due course.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh thanked Sarma for getting publicity for the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra through his acts.

"It is a political FIR and not based on facts. The evidence and videos are there in front of all of you (media). We will not be scared as it is just another threat by the Assam CM," Ramesh said.
