Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma slammed Rahul Gandhi, saying he will soon identify the "body double" who was purportedly used by the Congress MP during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in the state.
Sarma first raised the allegation on Thursday, saying the person sitting and waving at people from the Yatra bus was "probably not Rahul Gandhi", citing a news report.
"I don't just say things. The duplicate's name, and how it was done -- I will share all details. Just wait for a few days," the chief minister said on Saturday when reporters asked him about the allegation. "Once I am back in Guwahati, I will give the name and address of the duplicate."
The Assam CM's allegations came after Gandhi called Sarma the "most corrupt chief minister in the country".
The Congress also slammed the Sarma government for not allowing Gandhi to travel through many locations in the state, including Guwahati, following which the Opposition party leaders and workers breached police barricades to enter the state capital city.
After an FIR was registered against Gandhi and other party leaders and workers, Sarma said the police will arrest the accused, including the Parliamentarian, only after the Lok Sabha polls as he did not want to "politicise" the issue ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
