After halting his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Varanasi abruptly, Rahul Gandhi on Sunday visited Wayanad to meet the family members of elephant attack victims amid intense protests by local residents in his Kerala constituency.

Wayanad MP was accompanied by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, MLAs T. Siddique and I.C. Balakrishnan. He first went to the residence of Aji, 42, who was trampled to death by a radio-collared elephant in Mananthavady, Wayanad, around 7.30 am.

Later, he reached the house of Paul, an eco-tourism guide working for the forest department, who was killed by an elephant near Kuruvadweep on Friday. He also visited the Moodakolly residence of Prajeesh who was killed by a tiger recently.

He is scheduled to attend an assessment meeting with district officials later in the day in Kalpetta, the district headquarters, before leaving for Prayagraj, from where he will resume his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
