As many as fifteen people including eight children died when a tractor-trolley overturned and fell into a pond in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj district on Friday.

A senior police officer said the occupants of the vehicle were going to take a dip in the Ganga river in the Patiyali area on the occasion of Magh Purnima. The accident occurred on the Patiyali-Dariyavganj road and according to police, around 20 people were hospitalised with injuries. 

Shalabh Mathur, IG of Aligarh range said eight children and seven women died in the incident. Mathur said the driver of the tractor lost control while attempting to avoid a collision with a car on the road, Hindustan Times reported. The tractor trolley overturned into the pond, filled with mud-laden water, the publication reported.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the incident and said all injured will be provided with free treatment. “The loss of lives in a road accident in Kasganj district is extremely heart-wrenching. My condolences are with the bereaved family. District administration officials have been instructed to provide proper free treatment to all the injured,” Adityanath tweeted. Adityanath also announced solatium of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
