The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday assured that it is doing its best to bring the Indians stuck with Russian military, who are forced to fight in the war against Ukraine. MEA is in touch with the Russian authorities, said officials.
About 20 Indian nationals serving with the Russian military have approached authorities seeking help for their discharge. There were also reports of two unconfirmed deaths and several injuries among Indian nationals as well.
During the media briefing, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said 20 Indians working as ground staff and helpers with the Russia Army have contacted Indian authorities for assistance.
“We have an understanding that 20-odd people are stuck. We are trying our level best for their early discharge,” Jaiswal said.
“We have told people not to venture into the war zone or get caught in situations which are difficult," he added.
"We are trying to do our best. We are deeply committed to the welfare of all Indians,” said Jaiswal.
Recently, the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Asaduddin Owaisi and the Karnataka government has approached the external affairs ministry to bring back the Indians.
Indians from several states including Karnataka, Telangana, and Jammu and Kashmir are 'stuck' in Russia.
