Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari were among the BJP's national leaders who changed their names on the X platfrom to ‘Modi ka parivar', which translates to Modi’s family', on Monday.
The handles were altered after Modi's Monday speech in Telangana. "140 crore countrymen are my family. Today, crores of daughters, mothers and sisters of the country are Modi's family. Every poor person in the country is my family," the PM said.
"Those who have no one, they also belong to Modi and Modi belongs to them. My India-My family, with the expansion of these feelings, I am living for you, fighting for you and will continue to fight for you, to fulfill my dreams with determination," he added.
Why did BJP leaders change their X handles?
The move came a day after RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, "What can we do if Narendra Modi does not have a family of his own?" He was slamming Modi over his dynasty politics jibe at INDIA bloc.
Besides Shah and Gadkari, BJP chief J.P. Nadda, Union Minister Anurag Thakur and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also changed their X handles.
