The scuffle between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) intensified on Tuesday with the West Bengal police summoning two NIA officers in connection with the Bhupatinagar attack case.
This comes as an FIR was filed at Bhupatinagar Police Station against the central agency in a case filed by Moni Jana, wife of arrested TMC leader Monobrata Jana. In her complaint, Moni alleges that NIA officers vandalised properties in her residence and tried to outrage her modesty during their raid.
The raid pertaining to the incident happened on Saturday when the NIA team was allegedly attacked by a mob on Saturday when it went to arrest two main suspects in a 2022 blast in West Bengal's East Midnapore district.
The Bhupatinagar police issued the summons to two officials, the complainant and an officer who was injured in the attack. They have been asked to appear as witnesses in the case. The injured NIA official has also been asked to produce his medical papers and the vehicle which was damaged during the scuffle.
Meanwhile, the NIA has approached the Calcutta High Court against the FIR filed by the West Bengal Police against its officers. The agency said that the court has allowed NIA to file the petition and the matter will be on Tuesday itself.
The war between the party and the Central agency also saw the TMC leaders continuing their protest at the Mandir Marg police station on Tuesday morning. The leaders were detained by the Delhi Police while staging a dharna outside the Election Commission's office on Monday.
A 10-member TMC delegation met the full bench of the EC on Wednesday and demanded that the heads of the Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation, National Investigation Agency and Income Tax department be changed as they were allegedly acting at the behest of the ruling BJP.
Following this, the TMC announced they were sitting on a 24-hour dharna outside the EC office on Monday, The delegation comprised Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien, Mohammed Nadimul Haque, Dola Sen, Saket Gokhale, Sagarika Ghose, MLA Vivek Gupta, former MPs Arpita Ghosh, Santanu Sen and Abir Ranjan Biswas and TMC West Bengal students' wing vice-president Sudip Raha.
The leaders were later detained by Delhi Police and forcefully evicted from the site. Though they were released on Monday night, the leaders stayed put at the police station through the night and continued their dharna.
