There was an uproar on social media on Wednesday after it was claimed that a man was denied permission to enter a Bengaluru metro train because he wasn't dressed appropriately. The man was allegedly asked to button up his shirt and come back wearing clean clothes if he was to board the metro train.
It was a commuter who brought the incident from Bengaluru's Doddakallasandra metro station to the attention of the public on Wednesday (April 7). The passenger claimed that a labourer was stopped at the Metro station because of his clothes ."Location Doddakallasandra metro. One more incident of cloth/attire related incident happened in front of me just now. A labourer was stopped & told to stitch up his top two buttons… When did Namma metro become like this?" the co-passenger posted on X (formerly Twitter), tagging BMRCL and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya.

Meanwhile, Namma Metro denied the allegation on Wednesday and claimed that the man stopped on the evening of April 7 by the staff was drunk. The clothes he donned had nothing to do with the action taken by the personnel on duty, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited's (BMRCL) statement on the incident said. He was not sent back but allowed to board the train after the guards understood he was not going to cause any issues for fellow passengers, it said.
"After confirming the smell (of alcohol), the security guard engaged with the individual to assess his condition to travel without disturbing other passengers. The individual admitted to drinking earlier in the day," news agency IANS reported the BMRCL statement as saying.
