Chhattisgarh earthquake: The National Center for Seismology website confirmed that an earthquake of magnitude 2.6 was reported in Bastar of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday evening. While media reports initially said the tremors were felt at around 8:05 pm, the website under the Ministry of Earth Sciences said the earthquake occurred at 7:57 pm.
- According to local media reports, tremors were felt in Jagdalpur at 8:05 PM on Wednesday. The National Center for Seismology later clarified the time of the tremors to be 19:57:30.
- The earthquake was reported at a depth of 5 km, the National Center for Seismology website said.
- The tremors were felt in Jagdalpur's Amagudha, Kumhar Para and Pathraguda regions along with the villages of Karkapal, Semra and Adawal, Amar Ujala said in a report.
- Local media portal Bansal News quoted people of the localities as saying they heard a loud bang and felt the ground shaking. Many came out of their homes to safer open areas, it added.
- An alert was issued at Nagarnar Steel Plant, which is located about 15 kilometres away from Jagdalpur as the news of the earthquake broke.
- According to the government portal, the Bastar earthquake was felt:
2 km northeast of Jagdalpur,
233 km north of Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh and
243 km south of Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
