The Delhi Police on Sunday registered a case with regard to a doctored video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah going viral on social media platforms.

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police registered the case after footage of Amit Shah, talking about removing unconstitutional reservations for a religious group in Telangana, was doctored to show that he was talking about Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya said the video has been altered to misrepresent Shah's remarks. He alleged that the controversy surrounding the video escalated as various social media handles, including official accounts affiliated with the Congress, shared the doctored footage, alleging that it revealed the BJP's "agenda to abolish SC/ST reservation quotas."

After the BJP filed a case against the video, an FIR was registered under various sections of the IPC and relevant provisions of the IT Act. Sources in the Special Cell said that now arrests are likely to follow across the country. The complainants have also shared the details of the links and handles responsible for sharing the doctored video of the Home Minister.

Amid the row, Shah on Sunday reiterated that the BJP will neither remove reservations for SCs, STs and OBCs nor will it allow anyone to do so.

Opposition parties have repeatedly claimed that the BJP's call for "abki baar 400 paar" is aimed at winning 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections to have the numbers in Parliament to scrap quotas for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

Calling it a "Modi guarantee", Shah said the opposition parties ignored people from backward communities, who were granted their rights by Narendra Modi after he became prime minister.  "Rahul Gandhi says that if the BJP gets 400 seats, it will remove reservations. I want to say that we had a full majority for two terms but Narendra Modi is a supporter of reservation. "I want to say that it is a Modi guarantee that neither will the BJP remove reservations for SCs, STs and OBCs nor will it allow anyone to do so," Shah said.
