A Special Court for Elected Representatives in Bengaluru on Monday granted bail to former Karnataka minister H.D. Revanna in an alleged case of abduction of a woman.

The 66-year-old JD(S) MLA, who is the son of former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda, was arrested by the Special Investigation Team on May 4. He was in police custody till May 8 when the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate remanded him in judicial custody till May 14.

The court ordered Revanna to give a bail bond of Rs 5 lakh.

The case was registered following a complaint by the woman's son, who alleged that his mother was sexually abused by Revanna's son Prajwal. The woman was allegedly abducted to prevent her from testifying against Prajwal, police sources said.

Prajuwal, an MP from Hassan and the NDA candidate from the same constituency in the current elections, reportedly left the country on April 27, a day after the polling, and skipped the SIT summons to appear before it.

The state government formed the SIT following a letter from the Karnataka State Commission for Women after explicit videos of Prajwal allegedly sexually abusing several women started doing the rounds on social media.
