Kejriwal stays silent on questions on Swati Maliwal controversy; NCW summons Bhibhav Kumar

NCW hearing of Kumar is scheduled for Friday at 11 am

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Thursday, refused to field questions on allegations of assault of AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal by his aide Bhibhav Kumar.

Kejriwal, who was addressing a press conference with INDIA partner Akhilesh Yadav, remained silent when asked about the issue, leaving it to his party colleague Sanjay Singh to answer them.

Singh, however, responded with another question: "When our wrestler daughters were fighting for justice at Jantar Mantar, it was Swati Maliwal, the then chairperson of the Women's Commission, who went to support them and was dragged and beaten by the police."

Accusing the BJP, which alleged that Kejriwal has been shielding his personal assistant, of staying silent on crimes against women, Singh asked the saffron party not to play "political games" on the issue.

Singh, had, on Tuesday, addressed a press conference and said the incident with Maliwal was a "highly condemnable" one.

Meanwhile, the National Commission of Women (NCW) took suo moto cognizance of a media report headlined 'Ex-DCW chief Swati Maliwal accuses Arvind Kejriwal's personal secretary of assaulting her,' where she claimed that she was brutally assaulted at the chief minister's residence by Bhibhav Kumar, and summoned the accused.

The hearing of Bhibhav Kumar is scheduled for Friday at 11 am.

The commission said failure of Kumar to comply with the notice will lead to actions "as it deems proper."

Maliwal, who had gone to the police station and alleged that she was "assaulted" by a member of CM Kejriwal's personal staff, is yet to file a formal complaint on the issue.
