The Pune police have arrested the owner and staff of a liquor bar which served alcohol to the teenager involved in the fatal car accident.  The legal age for alcohol consumption in Maharashtra is 25 years.

According to police, hours before the crash, the 17-year-old was seen consuming alcohol at two local pubs, where he was celebrating his class 12 results. Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar told NDTV, “The legal drinking age in Maharashtra is 25, making it illegal for the establishment to serve him. Consequently, the bar owners are also facing charges for serving alcohol to a minor.” Amitesh Kumar said the bar owner and the manager who served liquor to the minor have been arrested.

The accident took place around 3.15 am on Sunday in Kalyani Nagar when the luxury car, reportedly at a speed of over 200 km per hour, hit the bike and crashed into the roadside pavement railings.

The bike riders were flung into the air and fell hard, resulting in fatal injuries. Both of them died on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta—both engineers from Madhya Pradesh working in Pune. They were returning home along with other friends after a party at a restaurant in the area.

Meanwhile, Suresh Koshta, father of Ashwini Koshta told ANI, “As per rules, action should be taken (against the accused) so that people learn a lesson from this. She completed her studies in Pune and got a job there."
