Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim who went missing in Kolkata, was found murdered, following which three Bangladeshis were arrested.

Azim was murdered at an abandoned flat in Sanjeeva Garden, Kolkata's New Town and the Bangladesh police have arrested three persons in connection with the case.

Bangladesh's Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan who called it a "planned murder" said the Kolkata police were cooperating with them in the investigation.

"So far, we have come to know that all the killers involved are Bangladeshis. It was a planned murder," ANI quoted the minister as saying.

The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.

Who was Anwarul Azim?

Anwarul Azim, an Awami League MP, was a three-time legislator. The 56-year-old was the president of Kaliganj upazila unit of the Bangladeshi political party. He represented the Jhenaidah-4 constituency, a bordering territory infamous for its high crime rate.

Azim came to Kolkata in his personal capacity on May 12 in order to receive a medical treatment. He was last seen in Kolkata's Bidhannagar on May 13 afternoon and he was scheduled to travel to Delhi later. Kolkata police had filed a general diary report about his disappearance at Baranagar police station in the city after a missing person complaint was lodged by the MP's friend.
