The Pune police on Saturday arrested the grandfather of the juvenile who mowed down two techies in the road rage incident. The grandfather allegedly threatened the family driver and wrongfully confined him, police said.
According to the Pune Crime Branch, based on the driver Gangadhar’s complaint, a case has been registered against the juvenile’s father Vishal Agarwal and grandfather Surendra Agrawal under sections 342, 365, 368, 506 and 34 of IPC. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar had on Friday said the juvenile’s father and grandfather had tried to establish that the Porsche car was not driven by the minor. The driver Gangadhar was in the car, in the adjacent seat, when the accident occurred.
According to police, following the accident, both Vishal Agarwal and Surendra Agrawal allegedly snatched away Gangadhar’s phone and he was confined in a house on the premises of their bungalow from May 19 to May 20. The driver was later freed by his wife, police said.
Two techies were killed in the early hours of May 19 when a Porsche car hit them. A 17-year-old juvenile, who drove the car was taken into custody over the incident. The accident case was registered at the Yerwada police station following the car crash in the Kalyani Nagar area of the city and Crime Branch took over the probe. Pune police on Saturday suspended two cops for alleged lapses in their duty.
A local court in Pune on Friday remanded the six accused arrested in the case, including the teenager's father, in judicial custody. The teenager is in an observation home till June 5.
