On June 1, the principal opposition party Congress will not participate in any television channel debates discussing the exit polls. The I.N.D.I. Alliance member has claimed that it has no intention to indulge in speculation and slugfest for TRP.

The party's decision to avoid Lok Sabha exit poll debates was announced by Congress spokesperson and media department chairperson Pawan Khera, who said the voters have cast their votes and their verdict has been secured.

"The results will be out on 4th June. Prior to that, we do not see any reason to indulge in speculation and slugfest for TRP," he said in a statement shared on X.

"The Indian National Congress will not participate in the debates on Exit Polls. The purpose of any debate should be to inform the people. We will happily partake in debates from 4th June onwards," Khera said in a statement.

“What's the point of speculation? There are some forces which are involved in betting. Why should we be a part of that? Everybody knows who he or she has voted for. Parties will get to know how many votes they got on the 4th of June. Why should we speculate?” Pawan Khera reportedly told news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, Congress's ally Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party also made a similar announcement for his party workers. "It is a special appeal to you all that you should not get influenced by any BJP 'exit poll' and remain fully alert, maintain your confidence and stand firm and remembering our basic mantra of victory 'voting is also being cautious', celebrate the victory of the constitution, democracy and the people of the country only after getting the certificate of victory," the former UP chief minister wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The decision was taken after consultations within the party, news agency PTI quoted Congress sources as saying.

According to Election Commission guidelines, television channels and news outlets will be able to run exit poll data and its results on June 1 after 6.30 pm.
