Lok Sabha Election Results Live: BJP-AJSU Party alliance wins 9 seats in Jharkhand

The BJP and the AJSU Party fought the elections in alliance for the second time in 2024. The ruling JMM-led alliance in Jharkhand won all five tribal seats - Khunti, Singhbhum, Lohardaga, Rajmahal and Dumka - in a major jolt to the saffron party.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha came up with a good performance in three seats - Singhbhum, Rajmahal and Dumka. In Singhbhum, JMM's Joba Majhi won by a huge margin of 1.68 lakh votes defeating her nearest rival Geeta Kora of the BJP.

The BJP-led NDA on Tuesday maintained an upper hand in Bihar, where it won three-fourths of the state's 40 Lok Sabha seats, but also ceded some ground to the INDIA bloc. The BJP and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U) bagged 12 seats each, while five were won by Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and ex-CM Jitan Ram Manjhi, who heads Hindustani Awam Morcha, made parliamentary debut from Gaya. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP-led coalition had 39 out of the state's 40 seats.

BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday won from Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency in Madhya Pradesh by a whopping 8,21,408 votes. The former MP chief minister polled 11,16,460 votes while Congress' Pratap Bhanu Sharma, a two-time parliamentarian, managed to get 2,95,052 votes. This was Chouhan's sixth victory from Vidisha, once represented by BJP stalwarts like former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1991), Sushma Swaraj (2009 and 2014) and newspaper baron Ramnath Goenka (1971).

The BJP has clinched 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat, including the Surat seat which it had won unopposed, but missed a hat-trick of a clean sweep with the Congress bagging Banaskantha constituency, a first victory in the general elections in the western state in the last ten years. However, Union Home Minister Amit Shah won from Gandhinagar seat with a margin of 7,44,716 votes by polling 10,10,972 votes, crushing his nearest rival from Congress, Sonal Patel, who secured 2,66,256 votes.

Congress won both the Lok Sabha seats in strife-torn Manipur on Tuesday, according to the Election Commission. Alfred Kanngam S Arthur won the Outer Manipur seat by 85,418 votes, defeating his nearest rival Kachui Timothy Zimik of the NPF. Arthur secured 3,84,954 votes, while Zimik bagged 2,99,536 votes. In the Inner Manipur seat, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam defeated his nearest rival Thounaojam Basantakumar of the BJP by 1,09,801 votes.
