Senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party, including Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, held a meeting today to discuss the party’s performance in the Lok Sabha elections and its preparedness for the counting of votes on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is eyeing a record-equalling third straight term with all exit polls predicting a clean sweep for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.

The meeting, presided over by BJP president J.P. Nadda, also discussed the exit polls results and the prevailing political situation.

BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde said the voting pattern observed during all seven phases of polls was discussed at the meeting. The party also deliberated on the deployment of its polling agents across the country for counting of votes, he said.

Party’s national general secretaries and secretaries attended the meeting which also discussed if there is any suspicion over counting of votes anywhere. The party office bearers were asked to pay special attention to such a situation.

Replying to a query on formation of the party's government, Tawde said there was no discussion at the meeting on it. The meeting only reviewed the elections and voting and discussed arrangements and deployment (of party workers) for counting of votes, he said.

Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met Modi in Delhi though there was no official word on the details of the meeting.

Kumar's JD(U) is part of the BJP-led NDA and is seen as a declining, though still significant, force in the state amid strong efforts by the RJD to challenge the ruling combine.

The counting of votes will begin at 8 am and the early trends are expected to be out by noon.
