2024 Lok Sabha poll results: Congress’ Kanhaiya Kumar concedes defeat

BJP’s Manoj Tiwari wins over by 1.38 lakh votes

Congress' Kanhaiya Kumar was defeated in the Northeast Delhi Lok Sabha seat by over 1.38 lakh votes. The BJP's Manoj Tiwari won the elections. All the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi was won by BJP in a big blow to AAP.

Tiwari, the only candidate to be repeated by the party, clinched the crucial seat for a record third time.

A Bhojpuri singer, the BJP leader defeated Purvanchali Kanhaiya Kumar by a margin of 1,38,778 votes. The BJP won all seven seats in Delhi in the 2014 and 2019 general elections and is set to repeat the feat for the third time.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the Congress fielded candidates in three of the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi and the Aam Aadmi Party in four as part of a seat-sharing arrangement between the two constituents of the INDIA bloc.

Conceding defeat, Kanhaiya Kumar, in a post on X thanked people of North-East Delhi and party workers for their support. "I thank with all my heart the people of North-East Delhi, the Congress Party and all the workers, colleagues and allies of the India Group who contributed to our election. Conducting elections in this scorching heat was a tough responsibility. The Election Commission, police, security personnel and the city administration also deserve congratulations for successfully discharging this responsibility,” he said.

“Finally, many congratulations and best wishes to my opposition candidate Manoj Tiwari ji for being elected MP for the third time. I hope that he will live up to the expectations of the people. The people of North East Delhi have given India Group the mandate to play the role of opposition. We will follow their orders! We will play the role of an active and positive opposition for the people of this area and will continue to raise our voice for their demands and issues.Thank you! Jai Hind!" added Kumar.
