Prajwal Revanna, accused of sexually abusing several women, faces defeat in Hassan

He was beaten by his Congress rival Shreyas Patel

Suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, who is facing allegations of sexually abusing several women and recording them, lost from the Hassan Lok Sabha segment on Tuesday.

Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda, had contested as the NDA candidate from the seat. He was beaten by his Congress rival Shreyas Patel.

At the time of writing this report, Prajwal Revanna was trailing by over 40,000 votes against his nearest rival Patel, according to the Election Commission website.

The loss in the Vokkaliga stronghold comes as a major setback for the JD(S), which is in alliance with the BJP in Karnataka, as Prajwal Revanna's grandfather former prime minister and JD(S) patriarch H.D. Deve Gowda won the constituency five times previously.

The JD(S) had suspended Prajwal Revanna from the party after charges against him of sexually abusing women emerged after Hassan went to polls on April 26.

Prajwal Revanna was arrested on Friday by the SIT probing the case, minutes after he landed from Germany where he fled after the scandal broke out.

The MP, terming the cases against him as false and alleging political conspiracy, had said in a video statement issued earlier this week that he had gone into depression.
