Rahul Gandhi wins Wayanad, Rae Bareli by huge margins

In Rae Bareli, Rahul’s winning margin is bigger than that of Sonia in 2019

Amid an impressive show of the opposition INDIA bloc in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi registered a massive win in Kerala’s Wayanad and is closing in on another landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli.

Rahul won Wayanad for the second time by a margin of 3,64,422 votes, defeating CPI’s Annie Raja and BJP state president K. Surendran. 

In 2014, Rahul’s winning margin was more than four lakh votes. He had bagged a total of 706,367 votes while CPI's P. P. Suneer secured 274,597 votes.

In Rae Bareli, as per the latest data from Election Commission, Rahul is ahead of his closest rival BJP’s Dinesh Pratap Singh by more than 3.8 lakh votes. If the trend continues, Rahul will surpass his mother Sonia Gandhi’s winning margin of 1.67 lakh votes from the constituency in 2019.

Sonia represented Rae Bareli in Lok Sabha in both 2014 and 2019. This time, she opted out of the race and moved to Rajya Sabha. 

Rahul, who lost to Union minister Smriti Irani from Amethi in 2014 by a margin of around 53,000 votes, chose to contest from Rae Bareli this time.
