Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with other leaders of the National Democratic Alliance, is likely to meet President Droupadi Murmu later in the day to stake claim to form government, reports said.
A meeting of the ruling alliance will take place in Delhi on Wednesday evening, in which Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Telugu Desam Party supremo Chandrababu Naidu are expected to participate.
The two leaders are reportedly being wooed by the opposition INDIA bloc which is also exploring the possibilities of government formation after their impressive show in the elections.
Quoting sources, however, ANI reported that both Nitish and Naidu have given their green signal to the NDA to form the government. Both parties are expected to submit formal letters of their support during the alliance’s meeting on Wednesday.
The swearing-in of the new dispensation is likely to be held on Saturday, June 8.
Earlier in the day, Modi met President Murmu and submitted his resignation, along with his council of ministers. This will pave the way for the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha, which ran from 2019 to 2024.
The NDA has won 293 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, but the BJP managed to secure only 240, much lower than its 2019 tally of 303 and the 282 seats it had won in 2014.
The INDIA bloc crossed the 230 mark, posing stiff competition, and defying all predictions from exit polls.
