After a setback to the Congress-AAP alliance in Delhi in the Lok Sabha election, Gopal Rai on Thursday said that Aam Aadmi Party will contest next year's Assembly polls solo.

AAP's Delhi state convener Rai said the alliance with Congress (of the INDIA bloc) was only for Lok Sabha polls. "The INDIA bloc was only for contesting the Lok Sabha polls. Several parties fought elections together and AAP was also a part of it. As of now, there is no alliance for the Delhi Assembly polls," he told PTI.

"AAP will fight elections with its full strength," he added.

Rai also said that the Lok Sabha polls mandate was against "dictatorship". "We fought the elections in the most adverse circumstances. Our top leaders are in jail. The victory margin has reduced on all the seats," he said.

Rai also said that the biggest advantage of the AAP-Congress alliance has been that the victory margins of the BJP candidates in Delhi have reduced.

"It was decided in the meeting that on June 8, we will hold a meeting with councillors and on June 13, a meeting will be held with all party workers of Delhi. Since Kejriwal is in jail, our struggle will continue," the AAP Delhi convener said.

The AAP-Congress contested in all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. AAP had contested a total of 22 seats across Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat and Assam in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Meanwhile, the Assembly polls in Delhi are expected to be held in 2025. In the last assembly polls, AAP had won 62 out of the 70 seats, while BJP just eight.
