The new-elected BJP MP Kangana Ranaut was allegedly assaulted by a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) woman constable during a security check at the Chandigarh airport on Thursday.

A scuffle had occurred at the security check between the actor-turned-politician and the CISF personnel when the former, reportedly, refused to put her phone in the tray.

An inquiry committee comprising senior CISF officials has been set up to conduct a further investigation. According to officials, the constable has been suspended and an FIR has been lodged against her.

After landing in Delhi, Ranaut in a video said that he was safe and perfectly fine. She confirmed that the CISF lady had slapped her and abused her over the farmers' protest.

"I am getting a lot of phone calls, from the media as well as my well-wishers. First of all, I am safe, I am perfectly fine. The incident that happened today at Chandigarh airport was during the security check. As soon as I came out after the security check, the lady in the second cabin, a CISF security staff came from the side, hit me in the face and started abusing me. When I asked her why she did so, she said that she supports farmers' protests.  I am safe but I am concerned about the terrorism and extremism that is increasing in Punjab," she said.

Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini said that action will be taken against the accused. "It is sad that a person involved in the secuirty is involved in this. Whatever happened was wrong...An investigation is underway and necessary action will be taken," Saini told ANI.

In the video that circulated, the CISF personnel Kulwinder Kaur was heard saying "My mother was sitting there and protesting when she gave the statement that the farmers were sitting there for Rs 100."

The incident happened after the Bollywood actor was elected to Lok Sabha from the Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh, where she won by over 74,000 votes defeating the Congress rival Vikramaditya.

Ranaut had left for Delhi at 3 pm on a Vistara flight.
