Crucial Congress CWC meeting in Delhi; will Rahul Gandhi accept to be Opposition leader?

A crucial Congress Working Committee meeting post the Lok Sabha polls is progressing in Delhi. The Congress party, which has emerged as the largest party among INDIA bloc allies post election, will pick its opposition leader today.

Led by party president Mallikarjun Kharge, the CWC will review the party’s performance in this polls and elect the Congress Parliamentary Party leader for the 18th Lok Sabha. The committee might also discuss the seat Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would have to forgo as he has won from both Rae Bareli and Wayanad constituencies. The CPP meeting is expected to happen at 5.30pm.

CWC committee member and Congress MP from Tamil Nadu Manickam Tagore said, “In the CWC meeting, we are going to review the performance of the Congress party in the 2024 elections. In the CPP meeting scheduled at 5.30pm, the Congress party will elect the CPP chairperson. For the Congress's leader in the Lok Sabha, we all feel Rahul Gandhi should be given charge.”

Tagore said the BJP has lost the majority as the single largest party in the election and the party is dependent on Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar to form government. “INDIA alliance leaders have decided to wait and watch and we will take a decision at the right time,” ANI reported quoting the MP.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met CPP leader Sonia Gandhi ahead of the meeting at her residence.
